“Dubbed Australia’s ‘Uber for waste,’ RecycleSmart collects almost everything that can’t be placed in the yellow council bins and recycles or re-purposes it — soft plastics, coffee pods, batteries, blister packs, electronics, and clothes.”

For those who want to know more about the actual recycling process, RecycleSmart partners with two soft plastics recycling companies:

APR Plastics

The soft plastics are baled and transported to APR Plastics in Victoria where they will be processed. At the facility, the soft plastics are shredded so that they can be consistently fed into the process. The shredded plastics are then fed into Biofabrik’s WASTX plastic machine. A uniquely designed corkscrew conveyor transports the plastic material into the reactor and breaks it down at high temperatures. The plastic is then converted into feedstock oil, which will be sent to Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery for further processing. There it will be turned into resin, which enables it to be turned back into recyclable food-grade plastic packaging.

Close the Loop

TonerPlas is Close the Loop’s innovative asphalt additive. Formulated over the past 10 years to facilitate a much-needed application for waste toner and soft plastics, this groundbreaking product is a key ingredient to making high-performance asphalt roads that last longer and require less maintenance than traditional asphalt. It is designed to melt into, extend and modify the bituminous binder mastic in asphalt, and can be added to existing asphalt manufacturing processes easily.

rFlex® is a recycled plastic material developed by Close the Loop that can be supplied to manufacturers of plastic items such as pallets, crates, trolleys, baskets and tubs. Any plastic products that are injection, rotational or extrusion moulded can utilise rFlex®. rFlex® is made from predominantly soft plastic packaging, sourced from a mix of post-consumer and pre-consumer soft plastics. Packaging films, pouches, bags, shrink wrap and even bubble wrap can be used to make rFlex®.
